Myth #1 - Weight Loss is Easy

Maybe it's just me but I find it hard to believe that anyone today would not know "how" to lose weight.  It's everywhere!  Talk about TMI and information overload, it's on the internet, magazines, TV, news, everyday conversations, the water cooler, book shelves, even some restaurant menus tell us how to lose weight.

Do people today know which foods are bad for them?  Unless they are living under a rock or are a yet-to-be-discovered tribe deep in the jungle of Siberia,  then yes, we know.  (maybe what I really need is more information on world geography)

Are we overloaded?  Are we confused?  Yes to that as well.  Do we like what we know about losing weight?  NO!  No we don't.  It's a total kill-joy.  Cut out all the foods you love and work your ass off at the gym till Trump changes his hairstyle.  It Sucks, just like Trump's hair.  Its very uncomfortable (like looking at Trump's hair).  And kind of like sitting on the sidewalk watching a parade with ants in your pants.  Add to that pain, the embarrassment of hopping around in front of people with your hands down your pants...but I digress.

Anyway,

The information is out there.  But that information is like the nightly news, it sucks.  Not only are there so many other version; high protein, paleo, vegetarian, the Zone, grapefruit, soup, cabbage, low calorie, and a whole slew of other crap that people market as "The" way to lose weight.  Well, if they did work, and everything that works for one person worked for the next, then obesity statistics would be going down instead of up.  And they are going up.

Why?  Why in this age of enlightenment are we not achieving healthier states?

People are different and different things work for different people.  But here is the real clincher...its all too complicated.

However, one thing is not.  It is the ONE TRUTH out there when it comes to body weight.  Ready?  Here it is:

If you sit around and do nothing all day, if you sit at a desk for work all day, if you are too busy to get some activity and take care of yourself (notice I did not say lazy), if you take advantage of every convenience such as convenience food (think salt and fat and preservatives) and self-propelled vacuums, lawn mowers and automatic bread makers...the escalator, elevator, car, up-front parking or valet, motorized scooters, and every other big or little thing man has invented to make our lives easier...

you will gain weight.

If this is true, then wouldn't the opposite also be true.  I'll discuss that in the next post.  Because, while what and how much we eat will always impact the state of our health, the amount of activity we get will always impact the shape of our body.  Are you in shape?  Do you want to be in shape?
